Changing Lanes

MOVIE:  Changing Lanes

NUTSHELL:  Two rageaholics get in a car accident and then torment each other for the rest of the day.

GOOD THINGS:  Samuel L. Jackson, Toni Collette, Sydney Pollack, cute kids, Kevin “Wet Hot American Summer” Sussman

BAD THINGS:  Ben “suspiciously tan” Affleck – okay I kid the meatball but I just don’t understand why he’s in every movie.

FEATURES:  Angela Goethals, Amanda Peet in a role that will make you go “huh?”, New York City, sleazy lawyers (I know, redundant redundant), 12 stepping, bar altercations, voicemail, criminal document reformatting, an orchestra of inner city children, commercial chat

UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS:  Ben “brown paper bag of greasy fast food, a bottle of beer and a cigarette” Affleck crying. AGAIN! Is it me or has he cried in every movie since Mallrats?

NOTABLE:  There was a guy in the theater, I am not kidding, he was having the time of his life at this movie and laughing his head off. Bless his heart.

BEST PART:  William Hurt as Samuel L. Jackson’s irate AA sponsor (is there another kind of AA sponsor?). There were some great lines with him but they went by so fast I couldn’t catch them so you’ll have to settle for…

BEST LINE:  I think I might have the snapper.

CROWNS:  4 1/2 out of 5

Combines a knack for storytelling with a rare instinct for exploring ideas within the framework of a major, star-driven Hollywood movie. Nice Review, check out mine when you can!
