MOVIE:  House of Mirth

NUTSHELL:  Gillian Anderson is Joan Crawford as Mildred Pierce in Edith Wharton’s House of Mirth

GOOD THINGS:  Tiaras, redheads, costumes, Edith Wharton , New York, Anthony LaPaglia not playing mafia, hats

BAD THINGS:  Come on.  Eric Stoltz?  Are you kidding me?  The guy who dissed Tracey and the Hindenberg Ground Crew?

FEATURES:  Dan Ackroyd, Anthony LaPaglia, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Linney

UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS:  Verbal gymnastics in opening scene are rather alarmingly precious.

NOTABLE:  Contains no mirth.   (stolen from Scott)

BEST PART:  Mr. Rosedale.  I dunno I liked him best.

BEST LINE:  If obliquity were a vice, I think we should all be tainted.

CROWNS:  4 out of 5
