MOVIE: Wonder Boys
NUTSHELL: An old has-been writer/professor has this really bad weekend and really tacky friends and all these things go wrong but then he gets off the chronic and has a baby with Frances McDormand and realizes he’s not anything special and buys a powerbook and everything is okay.
GOOD THINGS: Frances McDormand, Rip Torn, a really cute transvestite, if you close your eyes and ignore the movie you will hear Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
BAD THINGS: Animal cruelty, continuity problems, unlikeable characters, Michael Douglas
FEATURES: Katie Holmes and her breasts, Richard Thomas, Rip Torn, Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr., my boyfriend Philip Bosco, Jane Adams
UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS: Vernon Hardapple’s face freaked me out
NOTABLE: Contains character’s named Q and Vernon Hardapple
BEST PART: Vernon Hardapple imprinting the Galaxie
BEST LINE: Best line is a Pavement quote describing this movie: “Many are the men who get lost around the bend, solitary rejects with a need to spawn.”
CROWNS: 3 out of 5
