Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story

MOVIE:  Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story

NUTSHELL:  Michael Winterbottom’s version of Laurence Sterne’s pre-modern postmodern novel about the life of Tristram Shandy kind of.

GOOD THINGS:  Film contains all my favorite actors. It is a veritable Sundaes Unlimited of men I love plus Kelly Macdonald, Ashley Jensen from Extras, Elizabeth Berrington from The Office and Shirley Henderson from everything.

BAD THINGS:  Too many naked males.

FEATURES:  Tony Wilson, wigs, forceps, horses, weirdly realistic P.A. talking about Fassbinder, disgruntled consultant, crying Costume Designer (hahahahahaha), dailies and baby monitors

UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS:  Gillian Anderson as “herself”

NOTABLE:  While waiting for this movie to start an older woman ran into the lobby bellowing at the top of her lungs about the sound levels in Curious George. Call me crazy, but I found this strangely appropriate right before Tristram Shandy.

BEST PART:  DYLAN MORAN

BEST LINE:  A medieval craftsman… with a Porsche.

CROWNS:  4 out of 5
