MOVIE:  Amelie

NUTSHELL:  Very fun and funny tale of a misfit Parisienne with an active fantasy life who decides to furtively help strangers with their relationship problems while avoiding looking for her own happiness. Somehow, wacky japery ensues.

GOOD THINGS:  Scooters, trinkets, cats, Gauloises, globetrotting garden gnomes, Rufus as the flummoxed Dad, hilarious narration, dirty tricks

BAD THINGS:  Psychotically laughing lady two rows up, fruit stand guy beating up on the handicapped porno enthusiast Lucien

FEATURES:  Audrey Tautou, Montmartre, skipping stones, photo booths, barrettes, disguises, Mathieu Kassovitz, Yolande Moreau, Artus de Penguern, Urbain Cancelier, Dominique Pinon, Renoir, 24/7 live sexy clock footage, Michel Robin, Isabelle Nanty, Claire Maurier, Zorro fetish, electrocution, Clotilde Mollet, Serge Merlin, bizarre video missives with peglegged jiggers, Jamel Debbouze

UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS:  Worrying the sweet glass man would shatter

NOTABLE:  Viewers put off by the rumored acute impishness of Audrey Tautou can rest assured that it’s only a product of the tv commercial and mostly caused by that strangely memorable shot of her with the spoon.

BEST PART:  Likes montages

BEST LINE:  Love. The only bug she didn’t catch.

CROWNS:  4 out of 5
